Bill Alves, composer and arranger of some of our favorite NCI Publications including the amazing and totally unique "California Mabommay"' has composed another tour de force with Slow Air and Jig for four cellos. This original composition is aimed mainly at student ensembles. The register is not too high none of the parts go beyond 4th position and while the rhythms rock with 2's against 3's they are not that challenging. The piece begins with a haunting melody played against sustained drone notes and then progresses into a lively, rollicking Jig. Quatracelli! has performed this piece and I have also used it successfully with student groups. This one is fantastic -- don't miss it!
